When water is heated it expands – this is called thermal expansion. Hot water cylinders. are designed to relieve expanded hot water through either an open vent on the roof, or via a relief valve and pipe to an outside wall or drain. If hot water has been used, it is normal to see water coming out of the vent pipe, however, if this is a continual drip then the hot water cylinder valves need either servicing or replacing.

Domestic houses should have 55 degrees Celsius coming out of the hot taps. The exception to this is for child care and aged care facilities, where it should be set to 45 degrees Celsius or less.

There are many possible reasons, but ones you can check before calling a plumber are:

  • Toilet slowly overflowing into the pan.
  • Hot water cylinder valves consistently dripping.
    – A damp patch of grass or concrete may indicate a potential water main leak.
You will need to turn off the water to the toilet. There will be a water supply valve connected to the toilet that is located either on the back wall next to the toilet, or in the cistern. You will need to lift the cistern lid to expose the valve and turn it.
As soon as you notice a burst pipe, turn off the water from the house at the water meter. We also recommend turning off your electricity to avoid any risk of electrocution. Call a plumber as soon as possible.
Either you’re using more than what can be stored, or you may have a technical issue with the element or thermostat.

The two most common issues are that your pump has lost its pressure, or there is a filter somewhere that needs attention.

Can you install waste disposal units?
Yes, we install all types of waste disposal units. Sometimes they jam under heavy
loading to prevent the motor from burning out. Some brands have a reset button
underneath the unit that can sometimes fix it. If it’s leaking from underneath the unit and is older than ten years old, then it is highly likely it will need to be replaced.

In minor situations there may just be a small blockage in the trap located under the sink. These are designed to be taken apart for cleaning from time to time. If drain cleaner or a plunge hasn’t done the trick, then you will need to call a plumber.
